You can go raw with HIV-positive person scot-free

Many societies stigmatize people living with HIV and believe that their days are numbered. This is misconception and stigmatization is not a preventive measure, it only add salt to the injury of the victim. There are lots more we can do with HIV-positive people including the night game, which is the reason you are here.

HIV is a virus that can weaken the immune system to the point that it is unable to control some infections and AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) occurs when HIV causes significant damage to the immune system leaving a person vulnerable to illness and infections. Hence HIV and AIDS are not the same, thereby HIV is treatable to a undetectable level.

Can one contact HIV through unprotected intercourse with HIV-positive partner?

The short answer to that is yes; but there’s a way around it. Unprotected sexual intercourse is the major means of HIV transmission but it does mean that every skin-to-skin penetration with HIV-positive person leads to acquisition of the virus. This is because People on antiretroviral treatment (ART) who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load cannot spread HIV sexually.

HIV-positive people on ART cannot spread HIV sexually

HIV viral load refers to the amount of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) present in a person’s blood which means the higher the viral load, the higher the concentration of the virus. Antiretroviral Treatment or Therapy (ART) is the treatment that suppresses the virus thereby reducing viral load to an undetectable level. Undetectable level is the level which standard blood test cannot detect the virus.

How to prevent HIV transmitting from HIV-positive partner to HIV-negative partner during intercourse

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication that, when taken as prescribed, prevents HIV infection for those at higher risk of HIV. This medication is taken by HIV-negative partner before and after the intercourse. It prevents the acquisition of HIV from HIV-positive partner regardless of whether the HIV-positive partner has undetectable viral load or not.

As said earlier, HIV-positive person with low or undetectable viral load can’t spread the virus even if you hit them raw or you let them hit you raw. Although it is recommended to take PrEP regardless.

However, the best way to prevent the spread of HIV through sex is the use of condom for it is simple and cheap.
