Commonly Used Types Of Drones – Top 5

1. Single-Rotor Drones

When we talk about the most basic types of drones, we probably referring to single rotor drones. According to its name, it operates under a single rotor (In exception of the tail unit in some cases) which makes it to be able to generate thrust more efficiently than drones of multi-rotor. These types of drones usually have longer flight times for they run under just one rotor. However, these types of drones are usually not as stable, balance and easy to fly as that of drones of multiple rotors.  The more the rotor, the more balanced and airborne they are. Also, single rotors are usually more expensive than others.

2. Multi-Rotor Drones

Unlike drones that are able to maintain flight with just a single rotor, multi-rotor drones have several rotors positioned at strategic points on the craft. As said earlier, the more the rotor, the more the balance. Thus, multi-rotor drones tends to be more balanced than single-rotor drones but have lesser flight times as a result of the added rotors. Moreover, most types of multi-rotor drones are not able to fly a heavy payload in order not to lose the balance maintained by its offsetting rotors.

3. Photography Drones

These are also one of the commonly used types of drones. They are usually used by photographer and movie industries for their photo-taking capabilities. Although every drone is designed for different functionalities, if you are looking to take professional photo or video; that kind of drone with adequate stability for taking a good shot or video would certainly be the best. And with that in mind, drones with multiple rotors outfitted with a professional-grade camera – like 4k camera drones will be the option.

4. GPS (Global Positioning System) Drones

As the name implies, these types of drones are specially designed for the purposes of GPS. They work by linking up to satellites through a GPS hookup. After a successful connection, they are then able to use this as a means of mapping out the rest of their flight, creating data that you can then extract to use for your own purposes.

5. Racing Drones

These hobbyist-friendly drones are one also one the commonly used types of drones. These drones can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. The downside of these drones is the fact that they often don’t enjoy the same longevity of flight times as their counterparts.

Though there are many types of drones out there, but the commonly used types of drone happens to fall around the above lists which including multiple and single rotor drones.
