JOB DESCRIPTION

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • You will work with AFG College with University of Aberdeen faculty and Programme Leader/s to deliver the curriculum to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • You will have responsibility for the assurance and enhancement of the University’s academic standards within the course(s).
  • You will develop and deliver an outstanding student experience across the course(s).
  • You may be asked to take on additional academic roles as part of your wider academic role.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To contribute to the development, organisation and day to day management and delivery of courses, ensuring its relevance, currency, coherence, attractiveness and distinctiveness to students and employers.
  • To contribute to new programme and / or course development, as introduced from time to time.
  • To produce course information as required, including but not exclusively, lesson plans, course evaluation reports, peer to peer observation.
  • To be responsible for the development, enhancement, preparation and delivery of teaching, learning, assessment and feedback across a range of course(s).
  • To be responsible for the development and implementation of innovative practice in teaching, learning, assessment and feedback across the course(s).
  • To ensure that teaching on the course(s) is informed by contemporary research and scholarship.
  • In collaboration with the appointed University Course Coordinator, set, mark and moderate coursework, assignments and examinations.
  • To undertake teaching duties consistent with your areas of expertise and appropriate to the requirements of the programme(s).
  • To contribute to an outstanding student experience in line with AFG College with the University of Aberdeen strategies.
  • Ensure that academic quality assurance standards are met and applied consistently across the course(s).
  • To participate in professional development in support of academic leadership, teaching, research and enterprise.
  • To work within a framework of effective governance, ensuring compliance with AFG College with the University of Aberdeen policies and procedures, including Data Protection, Health and Safety, and Aberdeen University and the Qatar Ministry of Education and Higher Education quality assurance procedures

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Applications are welcomed from candidates at any point on the Lecturer scale, including Lecturers and Senior Lecturers.

Applicants will have a postgraduate qualification in Computing Science/Artificial Intelligence, ideally a PhD with a record of research appropriate to the level of the role. Professionals who do not possess a PhD but hold a relevant master’s degree and are professionally qualified with significant professional experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants will need to evidence scholarship and/or professional engagement, interaction, and activities related to their field of teaching.

Applicants will have a track record of university teaching and learning and/or experience of training, educating and mentoring the development of others. Ideally candidates will have a teaching qualification, a recognition of the HEA or be willing to work towards their membership of a relevant Higher Education Professional Body.

Transnational education experience will be an advantage for all applicants. The ability to teach in more than one discipline-related area is essential. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the administration of the programmes, actively engage with industry and in relevant scholarship activities. Knowledge of the profession and links to industry will enhance the expectation that candidates will collaborate with other research faculty within the partnership and in the wider academic community in their area of expertise.
